RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials with the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District (PRVWSD) said they are monitoring inflows at the Barnett Reservoir.

They said the reservoir was lowered from 297.5 to 296.95 feet above mean sea level on April 7
to create storage space in anticipation of rain. The lake level is currently 297.75, up from 297.0
24 hours ago.

According to the PRVWSD, the recent and forecasted rains have yielded a predicted inflow into the lake of 31,000 cubic feet per second (CFS) on April 12. The discharge at the spillway gates will remain at 24,390 CFS for 24 hours, then it will be increased to 27,000 CFS on Thursday.

The river gage at Jackson is predicted to crest at 31.5 feet on April 12. Although this is considered minor flooding, creeks and streams will begin backing up, and some low-lying street flooding should be expected.

The Pearl River at Monticello is projected to crest at 25.5 feet on April 12.
