Mobile County to pick up tornado debris in limited area

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile County officials say Mobile County Public Works will pick up tornado debris within its right-of-way in a limited area, as approved by the Mobile County Commission.

National Weather Service in Mobile determined an EF1 tornado touched down in the Georgetown area of Mobile County: just east of Lott Road and north of Chunchula Georgetown Road.

This is in Mobile County Commission District 2.

County officials say public works is working to clear debris from Mobile County roads after the April 10 severe weather event and, with Commission approval, will pick up tornado-related debris such as vegetative debris and construction & demolition (C&D) debris in Mobile County right of way within the affected area.

Public Works will begin picking up tornado debris (vegetative and C&D) placed by residents in the right of way only on the north side of Chunchula Georgetown Road between Lott Road and Alver Miller Road.

Residents near the tornado’s path may place debris in the location provided this weekend through April 21.

Mobile County Public Works Department will only:

--Undertake removal of tornado debris within the limited impacted area identified by the National Weather Service.

--Pick up tornado-related debris such as vegetative debris and construction & demolition (C&D) debris that has been placed in the right-of-way near the confirmed path of the tornado. (see attached maps)

--Pick up debris resulting from this weather event only.

Public Works will not pick up household garbage, appliances, or hazardous waste.
